Fairtrade Mark
and the big story the Mark tells you

Fairtrade Foundation

We are proud to be a licensee of the Fairtrade Foundation and a percentage of all our sales go towards supporting this truly inspirational organisation. But with so many great organisations and labelling systems it can get confusing can’t it? The Fairtrade Mark however is there to tell you a very big story. This Mark lets you know that internationally agreed standards have been upheld and it tells you that developing world farmers have been able to make a decent sustainable living. On top of the Fairtrade premium’s we pay directly to our producers, our license fee pays to maintain these standards. They also tackle some of the big issues by campaigning for change and together we work towards a fairer trade system.

Why choose products with the FAIRTRADE Mark?

At the start of the supply chain, small-scale cotton farmers find themselves at the sharp end of injustice within the global trading system. Two-thirds of the world’s cotton is produced in developing countries but the price these farmers receive for their high quality cotton is driven down by subsidised cotton from countries such as the USA, EU and China. This leads to overproduction, dumping of cheap cotton, the fall in real cotton prices which leads to impoverished livelihoods. FAIRTRADE certification guarantees a fair and stable price for small-scale cotton farmers – whatever the state of the global market.

Benefits of buying FAIRTRADE certified cotton are;

  • Fairtrade guarantees farmers a better price for their cotton enabling them to support their families, improved housing,education of their children.
  • Community Development – The Fairtrade price includes a premium set aside to invest in social and environmental projects enabling communities to invest in long term improvement.
  • Responsible farming – Fairtrade farmers are committed to reducing chemical use and protecting the environment.
  • GM Free – Fairtrade standards prohibit the use of genetically modifi ed cotton seed. Look for the FAIRTRADE Mark – the only guarantee that producers are getting a better deal.
